Election Committee Members Needed - ASAP!

Squashville Social Club Members needed - to step up and help the club!  It's that time of year (already) - and we need to form an Election Committee ASAP!!

Responsibilities aren't that tough and it's a great way to contribute to the Club that brings you so much throughout the year!  Committee Members will take nominations, present the slate of candidates, oversee the election and report the results to the Officers.  This is, though, an important function for the SSC - and we need YOUR HELP!  If willing to assist, please email Mike Brennan with "SSC Election Committee" in the subject area- and THANKS!!

2004 Events Schedule - Updated!

There have been a LOT of new announcements for the 2004 Charming Tails Events.  THREE Regional Family Picnics - FOUR Signing Events.  A special CHARACTER DAY.  And a special event at G&L Christmas Barn!  To get a complete list of all the events announced for this year, just click here!

Now, we know no one will be able to make it to every event, so we need YOU - the Squashville Social Club members - to be our "field reporters"!!  If you are going to any of the events, take your camera (preferably digital), take your note pad and, when you get back, email Mike Brennan a report and all your pictures!  Then just sit back (we'll take care of the editing and layout work) and see YOUR report featured right here in the pages of the "News In A Nutshell" Newsletter.  If we can get at least one or two members to report on each event - then everyone will get to join in the fun!  So grab your pen, pad and camera -- and contribute to everyone's enjoyment!!

January Contest

It couldn't be any easier ... to WIN!!

Contests ... Contests ... Contests!!  All these prizes to give away - and having to come up with new contests!  It was getting difficult coming up with all the new ones, so we e-mailed Mackenzie and asked him to help out.  Here is Mackenzie's reply:

Mike -

I know you and everyone at the Squashville Social Club are such big fans of Charming Tails, Dean Griff, Squashville and all the residents that live here, so we all put our heads together and came up with a list of questions.  We wanted to make them really tough trivia questions, but I remembered you said to keep it "simple and easy".  So we took your words to heart!  Below are 8 questions - all the members of the Squashville Social Club have to do is email their answers to Susan Ott by midnight, March 6th, to be eligible.  Now - is that "simple and easy" enough for you?  LOL!!  I wasn't sure if you had a sponsor lined-up or not, so I called  J. Philip, Inc, the publisher of the Collectibles Database.  The winning entry, to be selected at random from all the "correct" entries will win a copy of the Database, along with the Charming Tails Module.  What a great way to keep track of your collection!

Enjoy!  And make sure you have your "thinking caps" on before the members start on this "toughie"!!  : )

Mackenzie Mouse
Squashville, U.S.A.

Here are the questions Mackenzie and his friends came up with:

1. How do you spell Mackenzie's first name?
2. What type of animal is Bunnie Bunny?
3. What is the name of Dean Griff's Mom's son (the one that is an artist)?
4. What type of bug is Lydia Ladybug?
5. What MATERIAL is Binkey carving in "Binkey's Ice Carving"?
6. In what year were the 2001 Christmas Ornaments released?
7. What kind of vegetable is mentioned in the name "Squashville"?
8. What is the name of the Squashville Social Club's newsletter?

So jot down your answers and email them to  Jmsmott@aol.com before the deadline.  Now this is one SIMPLE and EASY contest!

As to the December contest - we have some wonderful responses to our request to the Members to provide a short profile of themselves.  A big thanks to our sponsor, Sparkling Rose Collectibles and to Vicky Coutour, the randomly selected winner, who's profile is below!  Thanks everyone for entering!

SSC Member Profile:  Vicky Coutour

Hello - My name is Vicky Couture; others may know me as Bellmice online.  I am not a good writer (Ed. - NOT true!), but I will attempt to answer your questions in my quiet fashion.

I have been collecting Charming Tails since Christmas 1999, which makes this my 4 year anniversary.  I can’t say I have a favorite piece, as I love them all!  If I had to choose one, I would have to say "A Day at the Lake" because that is the piece that I first fell in love with on Christmas morning 1999. My husband had given it to me as a gift as we had just started that year with boating, and I had my very first waterskiing experience. (Not a pretty site but it was fun)  I also received the annual ornament that same year from my mother and hence found out that there were many others for me to find pleasure in acquiring.  I went shopping at the mall the very next day and bought 3 more pieces.

I have seen Dean on two occasions when he came to sign at the Christmas Dove in Barrington, NH.  Unfortunately, those are the only two events I have been able to attend although I delight in reading the posts from everyone who attends so many others.  It has always given me great joy to realize there are so many other generous collectors out there willing to help get special pieces at the events for those such as myself.  Their generosity is so special, and I appreciate each and every one of them.  I was so excited the first time I saw Dean in 2000 that I couldn’t even speak.  I had taken my camera along with me to take pictures, and never even thought about it once I was there.  I regret not having my picture taken with him, but will remember the day forever.  It was at that event that I learned about the Squashville Social Club, and couldn’t wait to get home to investigate online.  Wow, what a realization for me about the larger world of Charming Tails than I had seen in my local stores.  I was immediately hooked on the Bulletin Board, and remain so to this very day.  (I am mostly just one of those lurkers....sitting in the background...ever so quiet)  From there I have learned so much about Squashville and all in the family of SSC.  I love the personal posts as much as the CT “hot news”.  This year in 2003, I volunteered to be part of the voting committee for the Officers of SSC and enjoyed it very much.  It was my way of giving back to all who have given to me through the Bulletin Board.

To date I own about 330 pieces.  My family thinks I own them all (HAHA) and are afraid to buy new pieces for me.  I currently belong to the SSC and A Mixed Bag of Nuts (Ohio Club) (Ed. - Unfortunately, due to health issues, A Mixed Bag of Nuts has had to disband.)

Outside of my obsession for Charming Tails, I keep very busy.  I work full time in the banking industry as an Assistant Manager and Investment Representative. I carry my love for Charming Tails with me to work by keeping pieces on my desk.  Customers comment on how cute they are, and it gives me a chance to talk about my collection while at work.  My co-workers love it when I get a new package from the UPS man.  I have three grown children and 5 grandchildren.

My husband and I enjoy boating (we have a 29 ft cruiser) on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH from May 1-Oct 31.  I keep a plush Mackenzie onboard with me.  It’s a great life living at the Marina for the weekends in the summer.  We have met many great people, all know about my love for Charming Tails.  We also enjoy motorcycling during the summer months on our 2003 Anniversary Harley Road King.  Once we put the boat and bike away in the fall, it’s time to prepare for the busy Holiday Season.  We then wait for the snow to come and snowmobile on weekends to pass the time for boating season to start up again.  All this keeps us very busy, but I always find the time to keep up with what’s going on in Squashville.

God Bless my husband for introducing me to Charming Tails.  It has given me great pleasure to be part of such a collection.  Whenever I need a little boost I only need to take a look around me and remember the meaning of all these special little figurines.  Life is grand!  Thank you Dean!
