Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a serious autoimmune disease that turns an individual's immune system against the body's own systems and organs, attacking the kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, skin, and joints. The Lupus Research Institute is a new organization hoping to discover the cause, best treatment, and cure for this chronic and debilitating disease. LRI grants funds to scientists for new and creative ideas that would not ususally be supported by more traditional sources of funding. For more information on how you can advance the work of LRI, please contact Sharon Berman at 212-685-4118 or sberman@lupusny.org. Their website can be found http://www.lupusresearchinstitute.org/about.asp
