LOOK WHO’S JOINED THE CLUB…..

To learn a little more about each of our members and help them get in touch with one another this column will become a regular feature.

We have FIVE new members to introduce:

Nicole Huntington from Silver Springs, MD.  She started collecting Charming Tails in 2002 and currently has 15 pieces in her collection.  She began collecting the pieces after going to the Longaberger Bee in Ohio.  Each year, Charming Tails does a piece for Longaberger and she fell in love with the way Dean put the Charming Tails and the baskets together in his work.  She did not go to the Bee this year, so if anyone has the pieces Charming Tails did for the Bee, she would love to get her hands on them.

Deborah Nelson started collecting in 1999 and joined the Leaf & Acorn Club in 2000.  Her daughter Kathryn Nelson joined her in collecting.  Her husband Steven accompanied her to the Picnic in Richmond in the Summer of 2004.  Shortly after the Picnic, she became a member of the Leaf & Acorn Club.  Deborah, Steven and Kathryn went on the 2005 Cruise and have attempted to attend every event possible since then.  They have over 900 pieces!

They have lived in Woodbridge, Virginia for the past 16 years.  Steven is a retired Army Officer and this summer retired a second time from his work as an Operations Manager for a company in Manassas, VA.  This fall, he started a THIRD career as a teacher.  His other passion is his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Deborah has been busy the last 25+ years as a full-time mother, wife and the person who keeps the rest of the family on time and organized.  Besides collecting Charming Tails, she enjoys her dog Heidi and their 3 cats.  Ste4ve and Deborah also have a son Brian, who blessed them with twin Grandsons three years ago (of course, both Steven & Deborah are WAY too young to be called "Grandma" and "Grandpa"!)

Kathryn is currently working with Babies-R-Us and is going to school part-time to complete her undergraduate degree.

Please also welcome Rebecca Hatnak to our club!

If you live near any of these new members, know of a local club for them to join or would just like to say hi, please e-mail Susan Ott and your message will be forwarded to set up future contact.

To all of our new members, WELCOME!!  You’re going to love all of the things in store for our members!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVENT REPORTS

This summer's Charming Tails Events

European Imports:

As usual, everyone has fun at the Signing Event at European Imports on July 30th.  Of course - friends met up with old friends and everyone made new ones, too!  Dean commented as to how many new collectors have been coming to the Signings this year.

Bronner's:

What fun!  There was always something to be hunting for ... I won't say exactly what (so as to not spoil the fun at upcoming Signings!).  There were about 20 entries (!!) in the Mad Hatter's Contest and the piece "You're a Real Winner" was awarded to 8 lucky winners.  Just
click here to see pictures of all the winning entries - and LOTS more!

One VERY lucky person won the raffle for Maxine's Hat!  The winner was Karen, from Crown Point, Indiana.  You may recognize her name -- she was one of the winners of the Cruise this past Spring!  Maxine's Hat, unfortunately, never made it to the Signing Event, but has found it's way to Karen's home.  The raffle for the Hat was a very successful fundraiser.

Precious Gifts:

Precious Gifts in Ellicott City (Maryland) had their Signing Event on September 10th.  The doors to the store opened at 10 A.M.  Debby Niehaus was the first in line and won the "Hugs and Kisses" plush!  Participants at the Event came from as far away as Florida, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Ohio to purchase pieces and have them signed that afternoon.

Dean, Wanda and Yvette arrived at the store around 11:30 AM.  About 100 people were there.  Mark provided a ping-pong drawing and a donation to the signing of a basket.

Precious Gifts provided a birthday case for Dean's Birthday.  Dean was thrilled (and embarassed) by a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday!"

The next Signing Event is this coming Saturday, October 15th, at The Incredible Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  Hope to see lots of ya' there!

Charity Nomination Time!!

Once again, it is time to think about where you want YOUR money in the SSC Treasury to go!  We will accept nominations for this year's Charity Donation through November 1st.  We ask that your nomination be for a not-for-profit organization.  We know that these are hard times and are sure that you have many worthy organizations to nominate!

Please send all nominations to fearlessfreddie@AOL.com and include "SSC Charity" in the subject line.

Do you have your Club Pin yet?

Our 2005 Squashville Social Club Button design - created just for us by Sharon Gleason!

The 2005 buttons are still available! Send a check or money order, payable to "Squashville Social Club," to Joan Woodruff at the address above.  Buttons are $6.00 for the first one ordered, $3.50 for each additional button in the same order.

We are also offering the "I'm Nuts About Dean Griff" buttons, too!  If you order them at the same time, they are just $3.00 each.  Otherwise, $4.00 for the first, $3.00 for each additional button.

And speaking of buttons ...

Believe it or not -- it's already time when our excellent artists and wannabee artists need to send in their designs for the 2006 SSC Club Button!!

As in the past, everyone submitting a design get two pins - a free 2006 Club Pin (with the winning design) AND a pin made especially for them with their own design. BUT - the artist who's design is picked as the 2006 SSC Club Pin will also win a very special surprise prize!  So get out those paint brushes, pencils - heck, crayons if that's all you have -- and get your designs in!

Rules for submissions are:  PLEASE - no computer generated drawings.  These have a dot pattern which is very hard to print.  We ask that all drawings be submitted in a circular design, 6" x 6" at the most and contain the words "Squashville Social Club" and "2006".  The designs should be emailed or sent to Susan Ott.  Just email her for the address if you are going to send it in.  Deadline for submissions is November 15th.

Contest

This month's contest winner will receive a VERY special prize - one of the cherished mini Charming Tails, donated anonymously to the Squashville Social Club.  The piece if very special for all and you die-hard collectors, because it is very hard to get.

Three of the sports series figurines have numbers.  Email to Tiffany Everett (rooroo2@hotmail.com) the names of the pieces and the numbers on them.  Here's a hint:  this contest is in honor of our favorite artist's birthday!!

The winner of the contest in the last SSC Newsletter was Bobbi Beagle from Toledo, OH!  Congrats, Bobbi!

All entries must be received no later than Midnight (Central Time) on November 1st!  And please be sure to include "CT Contest" in the subject line!!  Good luck!

Get Your Cameras Ready!!

There's a new contest coming (in the next newsletter) on how
you display your Charming Tails!  So work on your displays,
make sure the batteries are charged and ...

Do You Have a Contest You'd like to Submit for Our Newsletter?

If you submit an idea and it’s published, you will also win a prize.  It doesn’t have to be a hard puzzle or game.  Trust me, after thinking the Mystery Cruise game was a great idea, I quickly learned by the nearly non-existent response – that it was just too hard.  Hopefully, we will not let that happen again.  Since we had such great prizes for that contest (thanks to the Christmas Dove and Fitz & Floyd) you will want to either submit your ideas or be sure and enter all contests in the future.

We are hoping to add plenty of new sponsors to keep those prizes coming.  If you know of a store that would like to be a sponsor and have their website linked to our newsletter please e-mail Tiffany with their phone number and a contact person’s name.

We Need Your Suggestions!!!

Most of you will remember what a wonderful time we had at Rosemont with our Pizza Party.  (Not to mention the great charity contribution we were able to give that year.)  Since it looks like that convention is a thing of the past, we have not had a forum to gather a great number of our members in one place…so, we’d like some help with ideas to bring us together.  Suggestions have been made to maybe hold a little something in Las Vegas.  What do you, our members, want?  You have a team of officers ready to run with your ideas.

Check the "News in a Nutshell" archive for past issues!

Don't forget ... if you're ever looking for a past issue of "News in a Nutshell" - just click on the "ribbon" graphic that's towards the bottom of the CT Resource Page, right next to "Fun Stuff".  This is a permanent link and takes you to the Squashville Social Club Newsletter Archive!  All the past issues are there - for you to enjoy!

Squashville Social Club Sponsors!

Without the support of our sponsors, we would not be able to bring you the monthly contests.  Please show our sponsors how much we appreciate them by making your Charming Tails purchases from them.  And - to make it easy, we're adding a permanent list of all the wonderful stores that sponsor the Squashville Social Club.  This list will be here all the time - so anytime you're in the mood to do some "Tail shopping", just pick a sponsor and pick out the pieces you've "got to have"!!
