Charity Donation Winner!

The votes are in -- the tally has been counted.  And, the Squashville Social Club's 2003 winning Charity donation is:

Mayo Clinic - Breast Cancer Research

It was a close race - so thanks to all the members who voted.  As mentioned in the November newsletter, we are THRILLED that this year's donation is $1,500 - that's 3 times the largest donation we've ever given before!  It would not have been possible without all the member support throughout the year, so a big THANKS to all of you who purchased buttons, bought the prints we auctioned on eBay and those who attended the Rosemont Pizza Party.  You should all be very proud of yourselves!  And we know the Mayo Clinic will put the money to very good use.

2004 Event Schedule!

Believe it or not -- 2003 is almost over.  Which means that 2004 is just around the corner!

With a new year, comes exciting new events.  And already we've heard about several exciting Charming Tails events to look forward to!

March 6th - Flamingo Fling
Tampa, Florida

Lots of exciting news here.  First - Dean will be there, as will Fitz & Floyd and David Grossman Creations.  The Flamingo Fling already announced that there will be two special ornaments designed by Dean and offered as a fund raiser by David Grossman Creations.  What you may NOT have known is .... that there will be a Charming Tails Signing Event piece there too!  So if you haven't made your plans to go yet - stop wasting time!  If you won't be able to go - we suggest finding someone who is going and who can pick up these three items for you.

May 1st - Carlton Cards Signing Event
Pottstown, Pennsylvania

Since this will be a Signing Event, the piece just mentioned above MAY be available here, too.  This hasn't been confirmed, but what HAS been is that there will be a special version of "The Season of Peace" (87/135).  This is the piece with Mackenzie tending the lion and lamb and it will have a sand base (instead of the snow base) so it will fit in perfectly with the new Nativity pieces.  Also - they are expecting to have some of the Spring and Fall exclusive pieces.

May 15th - Charming Tails Regional Family Picnic
St. Louis, Missouri

This is the first of three "Regional Family Picnics" Fitz & Floyd have announced.  The theme for the Leaf & Acorn Club this year will be "food" - so what better way for Charming Tails collectors to celebrate friendship and food than a picnic.

July - Charming Tails Regional Family Picnic
Salt Lake City, Utah

The second of the Regional Family Picnics.  More details to be announced by Fitz & Floyd.

June 27th - 29th - International Giftware and Collectibles Exposition
Rosemont, Illinios

<Update> - Unfortunately, Krause has announced that the 2004 Rosemont Expo will not be held.  For more information, click here.

August - Charming Tails Regional Family Picnic
Richmond, Virginia

This will be the third, and final, of the Regional Family Picnics.  Again - more details to be
announced - and you can be sure we'll cover them all right here - just for you!

December Contest

And the Star is ... YOU!!

Last month we asked SSC Members to complete a short profile.  Since the response was "less than overwhelming" - we decided to add a little "incentive" for answering the questions.  So this month, just answer the following questions and YOU could be the Contest Winner!  The "incentive"?  How about a SURPRISE GIFT from this month's Contest sponsor - Sparkling Rose Collectibles!!

So take just a few minutes and answer the following questions.  Then, email your answers (along with your Name, City and State) to Susan at Jmsmott@aol.com by midnight, January 4th, to be eligible.  Now - wasn't that easy?  The winner will be randomly drawn from all entires.  Plus - keep an eye on future "News In A Nutshell" Newsletters and you may see yourself as the "Featured Member"!!  See - everyone is a WINNER!! (Members will be contacted for further information prior to being included as a "Featured Member".)

1. How long have you been collecting?
2. What is your favorite piece? Why?
3. What was your first piece? Did you purchase it for yourself or was it a gift?
4. Have you met Dean in person?
5. How many different events have you been to? What was your most memorable one?
6. How many pieces do you own?
7. Do you belong to a club?
8. Write a short paragraph about yourself (other interests, etc.)

It is always fun to learn about our fellow collectors. We all are very different but, obviously, have one thing in common!!! Many friendships have been made through collecting and a lot of those are with people we’ve never actually seen.  So, please share your story with us and you might win a prize, too!!  Just send an email to Jmsmott@aol.com and we'll take it from there!

And speaking of contests ... Congratulations to Donna Gilley, the winner of our November Contest.  Make sure you contact our Sponsor - Collecto-Mania to make arrangements for getting your prize.  And thanks to everyone who entered.  Donna was randomly picked from all the correct entries, which included any two of the following pieces:  Be Thankful for Friends (85/500), Turkey with Dressing (85/412) and Turkey Traveller (85/702) (OK - it's not really "Tilly" or a "turkey" - but close enough!).

Announcing the 2004 SSC Button Design!

In our last newsletter - we previewed the wonderful button design that Donna Moquin created for us.  As we mentioned, we only had one design submitted, but it sure is a winner!  Thanks, Donna!

Keep an eye out for the January newsletter.  That's where you'll find the information necessary to order the 2004 buttons.  Just a reminder - the 2003 button has completely sold out.  Again - thanks to all of you who ordered!!!
